Upcoming Presentation Information
Jamie Wright: Introduction to jQuery
jQuery is a javascript framework that is designed to make cross-browser DOM programming easier and make developing with javascript suck less.
In this presentation, we will go over the basics of jQuery which will allow you to go home and get started right away. We will cover concepts such as DOM manipulation, CSS manipulation, ajax requests, and user interface effects. jQuery makes performing these tasks trivial and allows you to add ajax calls and Flash-like effects to your web site easily.
About the presenter
Jamie Wright is president of Brilliant Fantastic , a software development consulting service provider and ISV for software management applications. He has over ten years software development experience in Microsoft technologies and has developing in .NET since the first beta release. He specializes in application architecture, design patterns, object-oriented design, and business objects using the .NET framework. He loves spending time with his family, blogging at http://wrightin.gs, and he is currently getting therapy for his gadget addiction.
Doug Hyatt: Introduction to XML
XML has existed since the late 1990’s and yet many developers don’t know how it can be used. Short for extensible markup language, XML allows for data to be stored in a simple text file with a descriptive object model. It is used for simple transmission of data between applications regardless of the languages, OSes, or systems involved. While most people don’t ever see the actual XML, they use it every day in technologies such as RSS feeds and office productivity applictions.
This introduction will show how an XML document is constructed and used within a .NET application. We will also see how it is useful for data interchange.
About the presenter
Doug Hyatt is a web applications developer for Lucas County using Microsoft technologies. He hs more than 14 years of professional development experience. A computer enthusiast, he doesn’t stop after work and is often asked to put down the “toys” for dinner. When Doug is not working on a computer or writing code, he loves spending time with his family, fishing with his brothers, and woodworking.
